Masazushi Honten
As the pioneer of Otaru Sushiya Street, this iconic establishment has been a key player in Hokkaido's seafood culture, which spans its family legacy.
Restaurant Details
The Otaru Sushiya Dori (which means “sushi street) in Hokkaido is already saturated with enough up-and-coming sushi restaurants as it is.
Masazushi Honten is not at all new. In fact, it is one of the founding fathers of the famed sushi street, back when the store owner Shonosuke and his son Masahiro attempted to hold a “memorial” as the herring fishery industry in Otaru faced decline, which led to the discovery of the Otaru Sushi-bar Street Association.
Since 1935, Masazushi Honten has been a cornerstone of its strip, consistently offering the finest seafood from Hokkaido. The restaurant’s exclusive sourcing route, through its own fishmonger, ensures access to rare and exceptional fish not always available at local markets. Each bite at Masazushi Honten is a unique experience, showcasing everything from the delicate sweetness of melt-in-your-mouth Canadian tuna to the rich flavors of Japan’s regional treasures. Every dish is crafted to be both visually stunning and supremely delicious.
The four-story restaurant, with elegant private rooms and spacious halls, is ideal for small gatherings or large special occasions. The route to go? Head to the counter so you can watch the sushi prepared before you.
