Restaurant Details
The Shiseido brand is one of the most recognizable in the beauty sphere, having established itself as arguably Japan's most renowned luxury makeup and and cosmetics brands.
But it has a surprising connection to fine dining as well, one that not many might be aware of. This comes in the form of the three-Michelin-starred L'Osier, which, like its parent brand, has established itself as the pinnacle in its respective field.
Founded in 1973, L'Osier has consistently delivered excellence in French cuisine for over 50 years. Taking the reins in 2013, its executive chef Olivier Chaignon elevated it to two Michelin Stars, where it continued to shine until the Michelin inspectors bestowed a third on him in 2019 — the pinnacle of culinary achievement, which he has proudly held aloft even to this day.
His menus feature French classics such as beef cheek, venison terrine, and foie gras. In accordance both with L'Osier's philosophy as well as that of the Shiseido Group, Chef Chaignon puts sustainability at the forefront of his culinary approach. Beauty, he reasons, is everywhere the natural world, the source of all ingredients — and thus, if this beauty of nature is not preserved, later generations will never know it.
This dedication to beauty extends to Chef Chaignon's unsurpassable presentation, exemplifies the delicate artistry of Japanese aestheticism. Colors are beautifully matched, and ingredients are balanced and arranged to make every dish a gallery-worthy masterpiece.
Meanwhile, the opulent decoration of the restaurant almost seems to reflect his artistic mastery; lavish without ever once being gaudy, the restaurant is draped in shades of white and gold, filled with glass sculptures that reflect the warm light into a glittering kaleidoscope. Even in the upscale district of Ginza, there are few other restaurants that perfectly embody this sense of luxury.
