Okonomiyaki is often seen as inexpensive street food that's eaten mostly casually. Leave it to Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient Jibundoki to sprinkle some creativity on to this common Japanese dish. Just a short walk from Honmachi Station, this relatively high-end okonomiyaki restaurant is quite famous among locals — a reservation is often best to secure a table.
The usual dishes are served here: Osaka-style okonomiyaki and stir-fried yakisoba noodles. But what's most striking isn't those menu options — even though the quality is exquisite, with six types of sauces spread on the okonomiyaki before being served. The next-level dishes are what have got people talking about this place, such as roasted potatoes with butter and mentaiko, rice cakes wrapped with grilled ham, and sauteed mountain yam and avocado with bottarga.
Jibundoki's creativity doesn't stop there. Their kushiyaki menu is extremely varied as well. On top of deep-fried skewers of pork chunks, mushrooms, and vegetables, this restaurant deep-fries items like ham, cheese and walnut, thigh meat, and even scallops!
