Experience Details
Experience the historical district of Nihonbashi through its food at three eateries that have been in business for over 70 years. In this lunch tour, you'll stroll Nihonbashi, enjoy an omakase lunch course, eat at a freshwater eel restaurant, and enjoy tea, coffee, and dessert in a long-established cafe.
Meet Mao, your guide, at the doors of Mitsukoshi, Japan's first department store, from where you'll walk to the nearby Nihonbashi Bridge as you learn about this area's fascinating history. Before you know it, it'll be time to tuck into delicious sushi!
Your first food stop will be Shigeno Sushi. Originally a fishmonger in the bustling Nihonbashi fish market, Shigeno Sushi became a sushi restaurant in 1949 and is a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. Here, you'll indulge in a sushi omakase experience, tasting seasonal dishes prepared with only the freshest seafood.
The tour continues in Isesada, a charming eatery that has been perfecting the art of eel cuisine since 1946 and is loved by locals and visitors. You can choose between kabayaki (eel broiled in soy-based sauce) or grilled eel (shirayaki), served alongside a delectable rolled omelet (tamagoyaki) and a beverage of your preference. Enjoy the rich flavor of this Japanese delicacy.
Your last stop will be Bunmeido, a cafe operated by a confectionery shop with roots in Nagasaki that is synonymous with castella, a sponge cake tracing its origins back to Portuguese missionaries in 16th-century Nagasaki. Embrace this sweet treat alongside seasonal confections, fresh fruit, and a selection of coffee or matcha in Bunmeido's Nihonbashi branch, which was renovated in 2013, and relish the amazing food memories you made in Nihonbashi.
