Experience Details
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Japan’s second biggest city and step into the world of matcha. In this tea ceremony class in Osaka, you’ll learn about the deep history and etiquette of this intricate Japanese tradition from a friendly English-speaking host.
Traditionally, participants sit in a kneeling position known as “seiza”, but this class allows you to take part from the comfort of a chair, so you can focus on making matcha the authentic way.
The class will begin with a history of traditional Japanese tea ceremonies and an introduction to the tools and utensils you will be using. Your host will prepare matcha first to demonstrate the process from start to finish. Enjoy a warm bowl of green tea made by your host as you experience the pairing of matcha and wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets. The slightly bitter flavors of the tea and the light sweetness of wagashi are the perfect match.
Next, it will be your turn to make matcha. Each movement has meaning in a tea ceremony, and while it can be overwhelming to remember everything, you won’t have to worry. Your host will be there every step of the way to help you perform the proper technique and etiquette to make a delicious bowl of matcha. Enjoy your freshly made tea alongside another wagashi as you take a moment to relax and appreciate the vibrant aroma and deep flavors of your green tea creation.
