Away from the bustling crowds and neon signs of Tokyo’s most popular hubs, find a pocket of tranquility in Ogikubo, an area in western Tokyo. Here, you’ll take part in a traditional Japanese ceremony led by a tea master with extensive experience.
Sip on a bowl of freshly made premium matcha and even discover how to make matcha the traditional way guided by the master.
You’ll meet Keiko, your host, at the meeting point, a traditional tearoom overlooking the serene grounds of Otaguro Park in Ogikubo. Your host will teach you the principles of etiquette involved in a tea ceremony from beginning to end. Your host will then demonstrate how to prepare matcha, the traditional way to express utmost hospitality. A precise ritual with intricate steps, engage in this meditative practice with deep roots in ancient history.
You’ll then enjoy your fresh bowl of ceremonial-grade matcha with traditional Japanese confectioneries (wagashi) inspired by the seasons. After the ceremony, your host will guide you through making matcha the traditional way and will teach you the tea wisdom passed down through generations.
Keiko, your host, is a certified instructor and tea master from the Omotesenke Japanese Tea Ceremony School. Learn from her knowledge and experience in this tea ceremony against the beautiful backdrop of the serene grounds of Otaguro Park.
