Experience Details
Noriko, the host of this experience, would like you to think of it as visiting a longtime friend's home. Her curiosity and passion for cultural exchange led her to travel to over 30 countries as a backpacker, and now, led by her profound sense of hospitality, you'll experience traditional Japanese arts while learning unique insights about culture and etiquette.
After discussing the day's activities, you'll begin with a traditional tea ceremony. This serene and precise ritual with centuries of history will help you find peace in the present moment. Under expert guidance, you'll follow by crafting your own tea and enjoying it with two traditional sweets (wagashi).
Next, you'll enjoy traditional Japanese music played on what is known as a "Japanese harp." A koto is a 2-meter, 13-string instrument designated as the national instrument of Japan. Your host will play three Japanese songs, including the beloved classic tune "Sakura," which you will then learn to play on the koto yourself.
But perhaps the best part of this experience is the chance to have a frank conversation with Noriko, ask any pressing questions you may have about Japanese culture and learn from her wisdom from decades of experience and specialization.
