Experience Details
Learn the art of sushi under the watchful eye of Chef Morimi, a professional chef with 15 years of experience teaching authentic Japanese home cooking classes. During this sushi-making class, you'll have the chance to make and taste two types of sushi: oshi, a traditional style of pressed sushi that dates back over 400 years and temari, colorful sushi balls topped with fish and seasonal vegetables that are known for their cute shape and beautiful designs.
Your class will begin with Chef Morimi introducing herself and sharing the menu for the day. You'll make eight pieces of oshi sushi, six pieces of temari sushi and a bowl of suimono (a Japanese-style consomme soup). Chef Morimi will demonstrate how to make each dish with special care to share the best way to prepare two fundamental elements of Japanese cooking: rice and dashi (a type of stock made with kelp, shitake mushrooms and bonito flakes).
Next, you will try making the sushi for yourself! You'll use commonly found ingredients, utensils, and cooking equipment so you can easily replicate the recipes at home. You'll learn traditional sushi-making techniques and be creative with your toppings and presentation. The finished dishes will be not only colorful, fun and cute, but taste amazing too!
Before tasting your sushi meal, Chef Morimi will share her best tricks for taking Instagrammable pictures of sushi. You'll then receive a cup of green tea to enjoy with your sushi, a souvenir and copies of the recipes in English to bring a taste of Japan back to your kitchen.
