Experience Details
Striking views of terraced tea fields against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji are the image of postcards and tourist pamphlets, but in Shizuoka Prefecture, they are simply an everyday sight. Japan's main tea-producing region, Shizuoka, is the backbone of Japan's tea culture, and this experience invites you to explore Shizuoka's tea heritage by interacting with locals and experiencing the area's high-quality tea with your five senses.
Your journey into the tea culture of Shizuoka will start at the JR Shizuoka Station, where you'll meet your host, a friendly English-speaking guide. From there, you will visit a tea wholesaler with over 100 years in business, where you'll learn about different types of tea and experience blending your own mix. Aromatic, light, and refreshing, Shizuoka's tea is renowned for its quality, which you will experience firsthand in this initial encounter.
After that, you will take a local bus to a tea farm, walk through the tea fields, and interact with tea farmers, who will share interesting insights about local tea production and their everyday lives. Here, you will enjoy a light lunch with tea and soak in the picturesque views from a sky terrace.
Next, you will visit a traditional Japanese home where farmers live to experience a Japanese tea ceremony. Engage your senses in the mindful tradition of mindfully pouring and brewing tea as you learn to prepare tea the traditional way. You will then return to Shizuoka Station by bus, from where you can continue exploring the city at your own pace after the tour.
