Experience Details

Stop by Obuchi Sasaba tea farm in Shizuoka for a peaceful moment of reflection and for one of the most stunning views of Mt. Fuji in Japan. Neat rows of winding tea bushes cascade down from the hilly slope over which Fuji-san reigns, a breathtaking sight that’s like a scene from a postcard.

Here in Shizuoka, one of Japan’s top tea-growing areas, travelers can slow down and bask in nature, sitting on a wooden platform in the middle of the tea field. Guided by the fifth generation tea master Honda-san, visitors can make their own original tea blend, selecting sencha (Japanese green tea), hojicha (roasted tea), or kocha (black tea) as the base. Nearly a dozen types of spices, herbs, and dried flowers are available to add to the blend, contributing their own aromatic qualities.

Everyone will get to taste each tea blend as it’s made, each one with its own balance of floral, spice, and herbal aromas. Creative combinations and traditional blends are welcome. After naming and sealing up these tea blends, Honda-san will bring guests to his own tea farm in Shizuoka, where everyone will take turns brewing tea in the fields, with another striking view of Mt. Fuji against the sky.
