After meeting your local guide, you’ll work up your appetite with a walking tour of Rairai Gorge, an attractive local spot (particularly picturesque in the fall season). After enjoying the scenery, you’ll walk on through to a local winery in the Akiu area. Here, you’ll take a tour of the vineyards and learn about the history behind the winery. You’ll enjoy a wine tasting session from the local wines on offer, with options from the exclusive selection from the on-site wine shop. You’ll take another delicious glass of local wine and head out into the vineyards to enjoy a delicious and sustainable picnic lunch, already waiting for you!
Your picnic will be served as a bento box-style lunch set, filled with tasty, fresh creations from a local farm-to-table restaurant. As your bento will be made from locally-sourced vegetables and ingredients, the menu will change depending on the season and local produce that’s available. Akiu is home to the magnificent 55-meter Akiu Waterfall and the traditional hot springs of nationally-renowned Akiu Onsen (famous as one of “Japan’s three royal hot springs”), while the beautiful ranges surround Banji Rock which heads the Natori River. Popular for hiking and biking, cruise past Rairaikyo Gorge, the Sendai Kaleidoscope Museum, Akiu’s resident winery, and the local crafts village.
