Experience Details
The bustling nightlife district of Sapporo, Susukino is where the ice sculptures of the Sapporo Snow Festival can be found every February. The Ramen Alley, or Ramen Yokocho, offers one of the widest selections of ramen from all over the country, concentrated in a single place. But mainly, it’s known as the go-to location to eat, drink and be merry.
With so many bars — more than 3,500 of them, to be exact — the choice can be overwhelming. That’s where the Sapporo Explorers come in: a corps of local, veteran tour companions with intimate knowledge of Sapporo’s ins and outs.
On this tour, a Sapporo Explorer will take you first to a snack bar: a nightly hangout spot of salarymen where you’ll play pub games and have a chat with the “mama” — proprietress — of the bar. Your next drinking destination will be your choice among the following six curated options:
1. A late Showa era-styled bar where you can play traditional games and sing retro karaoke songs.
2. An LGBTQ-friendly cosplay bar where you can dress in crazy costumes.
3. Maybe you’d like a live band to back you up? Choose the bankara-style (meaning “band karaoke”) bar, and sing your heart out.
4. A low-key, laid-back snack bar that locals swear by.
5. A traditional nightclub with a 50-plus-year history where you can dance the night away.
6. A body-positive bar with lively staff
Each of these has its own charm, and make for an excellent night out. Please specify your three top choices when booking.
At the end, you’ll receive a Susukino Nightlife Exploration certificate to take home, as a memento of what the Sapporo Explorers hope will be your “best night ever”.
