Brewed from fermented rice, Japanese sake exists in a category of its own, distinct from wine, beer, or spirits. You'll find it anywhere in Japan, from traditional wedding ceremonies to casual nights in izakaya restaurants — more than just a drink, it's a fundamental part of the culture. With so many varieties of sake available, however, the experience and wisdom of a professional sommelier prove invaluable in navigating the subtleties of this centuries-old drink to find your new favorite kind.
Certified sake sommelier Mizuki will lead this exciting sake tasting. With over ten years of experience, Mizuki tastes nearly 1,000 sakes a year and is acquainted with the long-standing traditions and the newest trends in the world of sake. She worked in Seattle for two years and speaks fluent English. Friendly and accessible, Mizuki will confidently lead you through the sake journey in search of the perfect sip.
In this experience, you will learn how production methods and serving temperatures affect sake flavor profiles and how to read and understand sake labels as you sip through twelve different kinds of sake from across Japan selected by Mizuki, ranging from sparkling, cloudy, yamahai, and unpasteurized, paired with light bites to accentuate flavors.
