Experience Details

Seats to a LIVE grand sumo tournament in Tokyo? Right here, folks. Step into the sumo world with this whirlwind full-day tour of Ryogoku Sumo Town. Your guide is an expert on all things sumo, so you’re in capable hands. You’ll tour the area, visit sacred shrines, sumo training stables, stop for lunch at a specialty chanko nabe (sumo wrestler's hot pot) restaurant, and see a live grand sumo tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena!

Please note that the default seats included in this experience are Chair B (see the arena map provided in the experience photo album above). If you’d like to get closer to the ringside action, we have 2 alternative seat packages below.

Ryogoku–known as Sumo Town– is a treasure trove of traditions, excitement, and larger-than-life athletes. This district is home to the grand Ryogoku Kokugikan–the temple of sumo wrestling–where the nation's most prestigious sumo tournaments (honbasho) occur. These tournaments sell out at lightning speed and draw massive crowds of passionate fans, eager to witness the thunderous clashes of the sumo giants.

This sumo spectacular will begin with a walking tour of Ryogoku alongside your guide, who’s a wealth of sumo wrestling knowledge. You’ll stop at must-see local spots like Nomino Sukune Shinto Shrine, Edo Noren, sumo training stables, and museums. After touring the town, you’ll head to a specialty restaurant to feast on Chanko Nabe–a Japanese hotpot dish sumo wrestlers eat for good health, strength, and vitality. Once you’ve refueled, head to Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena and take your Chair B seats for the grand sumo tournament (roughly 4 hours). End this action-packed experience with a group photo session (optional) inside the arena with a recently retired sumo wrestling master.
