Experience Details
Discover the intricate art of ramen-making in this hands-on workshop in Kyoto's historic Gion area, where you'll paint a ramen bowl (donburi) and make a delicious ramen meal.
You'll start the class with a brush in hand, ready to customize a ramen bowl. You can get creative with a personal design or opt for Japanese motifs instead — it's completely up to you. There's also the option of painting a renge (soup spoon) or an apron to add even more Japanese flair to your kitchen (see Options below for more details.)
Once you've finished painting, it'll be time to dive into the mouthwatering part of the course: preparing the actual meal. You'll learn a special noodle-draining technique called yugiri, which involves removing as much water as possible from the noodles. After expertly draining your noodles, assemble your ramen and dig in and savor the fruits of your labor! You can opt between Musoshin ramen (the most popular potion), which has a creamy chicken, vegetable and pork broth, or Gion kurosoba, featuring a rich, black sesame-flavored broth.
This class takes place in Gion, Kyoto's premier entertainment district, where elegant geisha and serene temples are an everyday sight. Musoshin Ramen, the experience venue, has several locations in Japan and three in Canada, one of which has been featured in the Michelin guide for three consecutive years.
