Experience Details

Within easy reach from Kansai International Airport, Senshu is an often-overlooked area of Osaka away from the bustle of mainstream tourism. Its peaceful bay and quiet towns between verdant hills offer a completely different perspective of Osaka — one where you can experience local flavors and authentic traditions up close.

This limited-time tour gives you an exclusive glimpse of Senshu's specialties: oysters and sake. Led by locals, you'll discover the area's unique oyster production, from learning techniques to shuck oysters with a seasoned local oyster specialist to boarding a fishing boat to see the harvest firsthand, if the weather allows. After getting acquainted with Bode oysters, the most common type of oyster from the area, you'll get a taste of it by enjoying lunch made with freshly caught oysters. And after lunch, you'll partake in a guided visit of the oldest sake brewery in Osaka, where you'll taste award-winning Japanese sake and shop for your preferred kinds.

Experience flow:

- Meet your host at the ticket gates of Rinku Town Station and go to your first destination by car

- Oyster shucking (opening) with local experts

- If weather and ocean conditions allow, board a fishing boat and approach an oyster raft, where you can witness the oyster harvesting process up close

- Enjoy freshly caught oysters served steamed, fried and in a variety of dishes comprising a delicious oyster lunch (with optional sake available onsite for an additional fee)

- Tour the Naniwa Sake Brewery, the oldest in Osaka, whose sake has been awarded the best in Osaka Prefecture at the New Sake Competition
