Experience Details
Takoyaki, fried balls of batter and octopus, is a staple street food of Osaka known for its delicious taste and iconic round shape piled high with toppings. In this street food experience, you will learn how to make takoyaki for yourself and discover the traditional cooking techniques and unique ingredients that have earned Osaka a reputation for being Japan's kitchen.
A seasoned chef will guide you through buying ingredients from their favorite nearby vendors, giving you a rare insight into the life of a Japanese chef. You will discover the range of produce regional to Osaka and unique to Japan, as well as how to choose the best ingredients for cooking. Once you finish shopping, your chef will lead you to his kitchen to begin your takoyaki-making experience.
Over three hours, you will learn the story behind takoyaki and the techniques needed to make it. The spheres of dough might look misleadingly easy to make but take a surprising amount of skill and knowledge to perfect. Thankfully, your chef will be by your side to help you produce your very own batch of takoyaki, which you'll then top with katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), a quintessential topping.
After the class, you can take photos of your dish before enjoying the delightful savory taste of handmade takoyaki and interacting with your host, who will also be ready to answer any final questions you may have to ensure you can recreate the recipe back at home.
