Experience Details

Osaka's Sakai is often dubbed a "city of knives." And while the area's forging traditions date back at least six centuries, they are by no means a thing of the past: today, around 90% of chefs in Japan source their knives from Sakai. What makes these knives unique, and, most importantly, how can you find the right one for you?

This guided tour of Sakai introduces you to the city's tradition and craftsmanship through its protagonists. Visit knife galleries and learn firsthand about the forging process from local specialists, tour a knife factory to get an exclusive glimpse into what the production looks like now, and receive personalized assistance while shopping for knives. This is your chance to see a historic area in Japan led by locals. Transportation by private car is arranged between venues so you can make the most of your time in Sakai.
