Experience Details
North of Hiroshima City lies Miyoshi, where cobblestone streets and traditional buildings provide a glimpse into Japan's ancient past. In this private tour, a certified prefectural interpreter-guide will take you through the area’s history while you explore its sites.
The highlight of this experience is the opportunity to visit Rai Kyohei's house, also known as Unpekikyo. Built over 200 years ago, it was once the home of a local magistrate and now stands as a beautifully preserved landmark. Here, you'll witness the precise rituals of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and enjoy matcha with traditional confectioneries while overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden.
Experience flow:

- Arrive at Miyoshi and stroll through its cobblestone streets
- At a local confectionery shop, buy wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) to enjoy with matcha during the afternoon tea ceremony
- Stop by a popular local restaurant for lunch (menu options include a fried chicken or curry set meal) and continue to stroll through the town. The main road is 1.4km long, but if you'd rather visit a specific attraction or take a bus or taxi instead of walking, please let your guide know so they can accommodate your request
- Visit Unpekikyo, a designated prefectural historic site and former residence of a Miyoshi magistrate during the 19th century. You'll tour the home and learn about its history before enjoying a traditional tea ceremony overlooking the garden. Enjoy matcha green tea with the sweets you bought earlier before learning to whisk matcha guided by the tea master
