Experience Details
Strawberry shortcake is a beloved dessert worldwide, but it's particularly popular in Japan, especially when strawberries are in season. This cake is also the go-to Christmas cake; you'll see it everywhere in bakeries and department stores as early as November.
In this baking class, participants make their very own Japanese strawberry shortcake from start to finish with the guidance of a master baker. Japanese strawberry shortcake is prepared slightly differently than cake in the US, Australia, or the UK. You'll learn about these in this class, too. This class is beginner-friendly. Everybody will leave feeling like an accomplished baker!
This sweet experience begins with an icebreaker and a brief event walkthrough. Then, get right into baking! Make the dough, whip the cream, slice the strawberries, and decorate to your liking. Depending on the season, the host might provide other fresh fruit you can use on your cake. Throughout the class, participants receive expert tips they can easily use when baking at home.
After decorating, the host will share some dessert photography tricks. Participants can take photos of their cakes in a dedicated photo corner and immortalize their experiences to share with their friends and families. The class ends with a taste of Japanese strawberry shortcake (the host will have baked this cake beforehand) served alongside hot Japanese tea.
No baking experience is necessary to enjoy this class and successfully make your dessert to take home! Japanese strawberry shortcake is not too sweet, with a delicate balance of flavors. Even those who usually skip dessert will not want to miss out on this experience.
