Join Mari–a certified chef and registered pharmacist–for an authentic Japanese home cooking experience in Fukuoka! Learn how to make a range of healthy dishes including fried renkon (lotus root) and nasu (eggplant) with shrimp paste, sunomono (vinegared cucumber salad), kinpira (burdock root salad), dashi (stock), and more.
Your host–Mari–is a certified chef, cooking instructor, and registered pharmacist with a passion for healthy cuisine. Born and raised in Fukuoka, Mari has always been proud of her home city but also fostered an interest in the world around her. She has hosted foreign exchange students, traveled to 40 countries, studied English in Auckland (New Zealand) and Perth (Australia), and has extensive training in Japanese, Chinese, Italian, and French cuisine. This combination of experiences allowed Mari to discover her true calling and combine her passion for food and other cultures into her home cooking classes for travelers.
At this home cooking experience, Mari will guide you through the basics of Japanese cuisine and teach you how to make several staple dishes. She’ll also explain how to use Japanese ingredients, culinary principles, and more. You’ll make several healthy, Japanese dishes, including: fried renkon (lotus root) and nasu (eggplant) with shrimp paste, sunomono (vinegared cucumber salad), kinpira (burdock root salad), and dashi (stock).
Once you’ve finished your cooking lesson, enjoy your handmade meal alongside Mari and your classmates. This cooking experience welcomes people of all skill levels, with the only requirement being an eagerness to learn and a hunger for Japanese food!
