Experience Details

Discover the spectacular natural scapes of the secluded Iya Valley in central Shikoku, a striking area shrouded by an air of mystery. Once a hiding place for warriors, the valley is known for being remote, which has, in turn, helped preserve its traditional culture and agricultural practices. A visit to Tokuzen, a charming hamlet within the valley, offers a glimpse into local rural life. In this experience, Inooka-san, a local farmer, will welcome you to her farm in Tokuzen for a farm-to-table experience, harvesting fresh vegetables and transforming them into a delicious lunch. You'll meet Inooka-san at JR Oboke Station. After a scenic 10-minute car ride through mountain roads, you'll reach her farm, where you will explore the area's traditional agricultural practices. Your journey starts in the fields, where you will delve into the area's harvest of fresh produce guided by your host. Once your basket is brimming with fresh vegetables, you'll head to the kitchen to turn your day's bounty into a delicious meal following local recipes. While food contents vary depending on the season, the lunch menu typically includes char-grilled stone tofu, stir-fried potatoes with miso, and seasonal vegetable tempura. Once your meal is ready, it will be time to savor the fruits of your labor and enjoy your fresh meal while basking in the spectacular vistas of the terraced fields stretching into the distance. While eating, you'll learn insights from your host about the rich culture, sustainable lifestyle and cherished traditions of the village.
