Experience Details
Beppu Onsen is a cluster of towns known for pools of hot springs ranging from fiery red to milky blue, a geological wonder that entices visitors year-round. One of these towns is Myoban, a tranquil haven dotted with timber huts and traditional buildings. It is known for its healing waters, which are filled with rich minerals nourishing the body and soul and are even used in cooking. Because of this, Myoban Onsen is a great place to rest and relax while learning about local culture and traditions!
On this private tour, a local guide will take you exploring Myoban Onsen. After meeting in Beppu Station, you will head to Myoban, where the first order of business will be to soak in an open-air bath in the healing waters of Yuyama No Sato, a tranquil, lush area surrounded by nature. Next, you will tour an important cultural heritage site (Myoban Yunosato), the only place in the world with a particular kind of timber huts, which have been used for centuries to produce yunohana mineral salts from natural onsen steam, where you can learn about the medicinal bath salts produced there.
After this unique learning experience, you will wrap up the tour by trying some of the area’s specialties. Known as jigokumushi (hell steaming), cooking with steam from piping hot springs is common in the area, and you’ll visit a local supermarket to buy fresh foods to steam. You’ll end the day on a sweet note by enjoying a delicious pudding made with hot spring water steam.
Your friendly guide will ensure you have the best experience in Beppu by showing you around in their signature friendly and easy-going way and answering any questions you may have about the area.
