Experience Details
While Asakusa’s Sensoji Temple sees most of its crowds during the day, it becomes calmer, almost whimsical, after dark. Once stores close at Nakamise, the shopping street running from the temple's Kaminarimon Gate to the Hozomon Gate, the area becomes aglow with lamps, and as the number of visitors recede, the traditional sights are basked in a new light.
That's precisely when this tour begins — after most tourist crowds are gone. In this evening walking tour of Asakusa, you'll learn about the history and culture of the area from a knowledgeable guide, taste traditional snacks like pickled plums and rice crackers, and wrap up the experience with a charming dinner at a local restaurant.
Your guide will meet you at the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, a sleek and modern building right in front of the Nakamise Shopping Street, only a few minutes from Asakusa Station. Stroll the area, admiring the traditional motifs of the shutter murals on the shops along Nakamise, sampling classic snacks like pickled plums or rice crackers, and learning fascinating historical insights from your guide. After you’re done exploring, you’ll enjoy dinner together with your guide at a local restaurant where you can indulge in seasonal delicacies.
