Shikinoaji Enzu
Newcomers quickly become regulars at this beloved kappo, where the owner's sunny disposition and warm hospitality spread through word of mouth.
Restaurant Details
Newcomers compete with regulars for one of the eight counter seats at Shikinoaji Enzu. The kappo was flying under the radar before word of mouth spread about the owner-chef’s warm service and convivial charm — and now that it was featured in the Michelin Guide, the place has even become more coveted.
The owner eagerly recommends the day's specials and serves an appetizer while you ponder on the main dish. True to kappo dining, the menu draws from seasonal ingredients and fresh seafood catches.
His creations aren’t bound to one genre; within the same open kitchen, he might prepare salt-grilled scallops, atusage (deep-fried tofu), or miso-marinated chicken fillet. The seafood offerings evolve with the seasons, transitioning from rock oysters to sea urchins, sweet shrimp, or seabream. Sushi, though not listed on the menu, is available upon request. Special occasions might even call for rare delicacies like whale and fugu sashimi, although don’t be surprised if you sit alongside patrons unwinding after work — no one is out of place here.
Shikinoaji Enzu is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant for 2024.
