Restaurant Details

The trip to this soba shop is well-rewarded. Though it might lie a little far away from the main districts (being a 10 minute walk from Higashi-Nagasaki Station), the little bit of effort it takes to get here means that you’ll face less of a wait than at other restaurants in central Tokyo.

The husband and wife team provide a welcoming vibe, and their shop has an authentic local feel to it. While you wait on your noodles, you can order small dishes like herring, tofu, and tamagoyaki to start.

They also offer a set menu with three courses to it: al dente dipping soba, a small soup such as soba with mackerel, and a traditional little dessert to finish. With all of that available for just around 3000 yen, it’s no wonder Jiyu-san is listed with Bib Gourmand (great value for money) status in the Michelin Guide to Tokyo.
