Experience Details
In this private 3-hour Tsukiji tour led by local Japanese university students eager to share their culture, you’ll explore the history and culture of Tsukiji and indulge in Japanese food at the famous Tsukiji Outer Market, known for being Tokyo’s “seafood wonderland.”
Your Tsukiji adventure starts at the main gate of Tsukiji Hongwan-ji Temple. After meeting your guide, head inside this famous Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple to explore its distinct blend of architectural influences and learn the proper worship etiquette.
After your respite in the temple, your journey continues to the bustling Tsukiji Outer Market, packed with street stalls, tiny restaurants, and wholesale and retail shops, where multiple appetizing food aromas converge. While Toyosu became the main site for the fish market and auctions in 2018, many Tsukiji vendors proudly sell fresh seafood straight from the market, guaranteeing the freshness and premium quality that earned Tsukiji its worldwide reputation.
As you wander the narrow streets, your guide will point out notable landmarks and cultural points of interest. Taste local foods like tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), green tea, and, of course, sushi made from the freshest seafood in Tokyo. You can also sample dashi soup, dried scallops, and more to get the full experience of Japanese food culture while bonding with your guides in a relaxed and memorable cultural exchange. What’s more, this tour is private, so you can explore at your own pace and receive lots of personalized guidance from the host.
