Japanese sake has a rich history dating back well over 1,000 years. Like other types of alcohol, it has a vibrant culture of food pairings that accentuate the deep flavors of each cup. However, finding the perfect pairing can be difficult with so many kinds of sake with distinct characteristics. That’s why the knowledge of experts is instrumental in enjoying this drink to the fullest.


In this sake-tasting in Tokyo's Bunkyo ward, you'll discover these combinations as you enjoy five cups of Japan's traditional rice wine with a course menu featuring vegan variations of staple Chinese dishes like dumplings and tan-tan ramen.


Learn from an accredited sake sommelier as he explains the brewing process and characteristics of Japanese sake, which, like wine, has different qualities based on brand and type. You'll learn how to decipher sake labels to understand the differences between each variety.


Next, it'll be time to dive into your meal. Your sommelier guide will explain how each sake's distinct flavor suits the dishes. You'll enjoy a cup of sake alongside each dish of your extensive vegan course meal.
