Experience Details
Ryuta, an enthusiastic sommelier, has had his fair share of enlightening experiences in the world of sake. After a few uninspiring first sips, he discovered a light, floral sake that changed his view of Japan's national drink forever. Ryuta went on to study under the masters of 300-year-old sake brewery Ozawa in Okutama, where he invites his guests to retrace the mind-opening journey.
Now, Ryuta goes by the nickname “Wasabi” and shares his love for Japanese culture and tradition through sake tours of Okutama. During this experience, you'll sample five to six of Ozawa Brewery’s ten varieties of sake and listen to personal anecdotes and relatable stories from Ryuta’s own adventures. This opportunity was made possible thanks to Ryuta’s close relationship and solid trust with the brewery, which is otherwise not offered in English!
The trip includes a fun-filled train ride from Shinjuku to the rolling hills and bright greenery of Okutama, a beloved hiking area and nature spot for Tokyoites, followed by a brewery tour and tasting session. What dreams are made of? Sipping sake alongside small bites surrounded by the nature of West Tokyo. Wandering the area, you can also find regional foods and snack including tofu made with Okutama’s clear water. This tofu is meant to be consumed the day it’s made, making Okutama one of the only places you can try it!
