Experience Details
Japan's cherry blossom season is a time to celebrate with friends and family gathering under the trees to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful pink scenery. “Hanami,” Japan’s tradition of flower viewing, is observed in many ways, and a popular option is enjoying an outdoor picnic. This experience invites you to make friends with locals by enjoying a picnic together, a casual, open-air tea ceremony and discovering seasonal snacks that go well with matcha, all under the beautiful sight of the sakura trees in Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park.
One of the city’s most popular spots for hanami, Yoyogi Park is a wide expanse in Tokyo’s Harajuku neighborhood, home to over 600 cherry blossom trees. Your hosts will lead you to the designated spot for the picnic, where you’ll start with a nodate-style tea ceremony. A Japanese matcha expert will serve matcha the traditional way, and guide you on how to whisk it to achieve frothy, flavorful matcha every time. As tradition dictates, you’ll enjoy seasonal snacks and traditional Japanese confectioneries that complement the matcha.
Throughout the experience, feel free to ask questions about Tokyo and Japanese culture or even request travel tips! An option to add sake and otsumami (snack pairings) and premium wagashi confectioneries is available through the Option Packages below.
