Experience Details
Celebrate Japan’s cherry blossom season the traditional way — with a hanami picnic! “Hanami” translates to “flower viewing” and it’s a time-honored tradition still held every spring by groups of friends and families across Japan. If you’d like to join in the fun, share a special picnic with local hosts under the cherry blossom trees at one of Tokyo’s main hanami spots, Yoyogi Park in Harajuku.
You’ll first change into a traditional kimono at a nearby venue, and then head to Yoyogi Park. Framed by the pink flowers, you’ll kickstart your picnic with a nodate-style tea ceremony led by a Japanese matcha expert. You’ll learn the history and techniques of matcha-making and even try whisking it yourself. To complement the matcha, your host will offer a selection of seasonal snacks and traditional Japanese confectioneries.
Throughout the experience, feel free to ask questions about Tokyo, Japanese culture, or even request travel tips! An option to add sake and otsumami (snack pairings) and premium wagashi confectioneries is available through the Option Packages below.
