Experience Details
Make your trip to Japan even more memorable by wearing a kimono and having a professional photoshoot against the backdrop of the historic Zojoji Temple and Tokyo’s quintessential landmark — Tokyo Tower! Dressed in traditional attire, you’ll explore a Buddhist temple and enjoy a traditional Edo-style lunch to experience traditional Japanese culture and capture memories with beautiful photos taken by a professional photographer.
Your experience will start at Sakra Kimono Rental, where you will choose from a selection of kimono. You will then be assisted in getting dressed and receive simple hair styling to complete the look (both male and female kimono are available).
After getting ready, you will be taken to Zojoji Temple for a professional photo shoot. Zojoji is a Buddhist temple originally built in the 1300s and moved to its current location in the heart of Tokyo in 1593. Famous for its views of Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple is the perfect location for a photoshoot that perfectly reflects old and new Japan.
While at Zojoji, you will watch the daily Buddhist service led by the monks and can make a wish at the Ankokuden Hall. You’ll also offer your prayers to the Kurohonzon (Black Buddha of Victory) and receive a commemorative prayer bead bracelet or, if you’d prefer not to participate in the religious activities, you can choose to take part in a short sutra calligraphy experience (shakyo) instead.
The experience will conclude at Tofuya Ukai, an Edo-style tofu restaurant near the temple where you will enjoy an intricate course meal. Throughout the tour, an English-speaking guide and photographer who is well-versed in the temple's history will accompany you. You can continue to wear the kimono after the experience ends following lunch and return it from your hotel using a pre-addressed and prepaid shipping bag the next day.
