Experience Details

Discover the culinary delights of Hiroshima with an immersive 1.5-hour cooking class where you'll master the art of making Kawara Soba, a beloved local dish, and try warabimochi. Kawara soba is a Hiroshima Prefecture staple. Considered a local soul food, it features green tea-infused soba noodles topped with beef or pork, strips of fried egg and dried seaweed, then grilled on a hot roof tile (kawara). These noodles get their distinctive flavor from renowned Uji tea, complemented by fresh ingredients like lemon, momiji oroshi (grated daikon radish) and spring onions. You’ll soon find out why Hiroshima residents love this dish so much. Under the expert guidance of Takako, a seasoned home cooking specialist, you'll gain hands-on experience in preparing this unique dish and learn about its place in Hiroshima's culinary tradition. After savoring your savory creation, you'll transition to making warabimochi, a chewy confection made from bracken starchi. To complete your sweet treat, you'll prepare and enjoy matcha tea, immersing yourself further in Japanese food culture. This comprehensive class not only teaches you the techniques and flavors of authentic Japanese cuisine but also offers a unique cultural experience in the heart of Hiroshima. It’s the best souvenir to top off your Hiroshima trip! Class flow: -Meet your host 10 minutes before the starting time to prepare for the class. -Learn how to make kawara soba. -Eat your savory dish! -Make warabimochi and whisk your matcha. -Enjoy your dessert and tea.
