Experience Details
Step out of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo city and all the tourist traps that leave your wallet drained. This tour will take you away from the tourist-filled areas, such as Shibuya and Shinjuku, and focus on Ueno. Ueno, just north of the Tokyo epicenter, is famous among Japanese foodies for its plenty of delicious foods for quality prices. Your tour guide will take you through the streets of Ueno, stopping at three popular bars and restaurants that are rarely frequented by tourists, giving you a very authentic experience of Japanese food and drinking culture.
You will find that the patrons and staff alike will only speak in Japanese, as it is rare that they need to use English at all. But, with the help of your guide, you will be able to order each establishment's signature dishes, sampling such dishes as sashimi, grilled fish, and meat skewers along the way. Your guide will introduce each dish and teach about the components of each dish, the culture relating to different foods and drinks, and any other questions you may have. You will also have the opportunity to taste five or more different types of unique Japanese alcoholic beverages.
After enjoying delightfully tasty and specialty dishes at these three establishments, you will make one last stop at a ramen shop, which is popular among the locals.
In Japan, it is common practice to finish the night with a big bowl of noodles after drinking and enjoying the nightlife with friends. At the end of the tour, your guide will take you to the entrance gate of your train line, located at the station closest to the local ramen shop.
Full-sized meals will be ordered at each restaurant, which can be shared between the tour group. Make sure to come with a big appetite to get the most value out of your experience!
