Restaurant Details
Kimura Toshio made his solo debut in 2023 after spending 20 years honing his skills in bistros, Spanish bars and Japanese izakaya. Tucked away in a back alley of the upscale Kagurazaka neighborhood, 124. Kagurazaka is a high-end yakitori joint with all the Michelin-worthy trimmings: an open kitchen, a sleek black counter and 12 exclusive counter seats. The “124" is derived from the shop's address and the birth month of the staff members.
It’s a bold leap. The area is already saturated with superb venues, and the competition for space is fierce, but an ever-changing omakase course revolves around a constant star — the Date chicken — that sets his offerings apart.
Inspired by France’s renowned Bresse chicken, Date chicken has been raised in Fukushima Prefecture since 1985 under strict conditions to ensure its exceptional quality. At 124. Kagurazaka, white-uniformed staff leverages years of experience to bring out the full juiciness of Date chicken, crafting each dish to perfection.
124. Kagurazaka’s tasting course features around 15 dishes of chicken and vegetable skewers. Chicken breast roasted over charcoal is delicately brushed with chicken oil and topped with wasabi, while the chicken heart offers a crisp texture, balanced with grated ginger to mellow its strong flavor. The meal concludes with a comforting ramen swimming in a broth made from chicken bones. A wide variety of drinks complement the course, including bottled and craft beers, over 10 categories of sake, white and red wines, champagne and sours.
Dining is lively; his team is talented — a stellar debut from a chef with boundless potential.
