Experience Details
Asakusa retains the traditional charm and magic of old Tokyo, with quaint backstreets and narrow alleyways, old storefronts and landmarks awaiting at every turn. But out of all, the majestic sight of Sensoji Temple lit aglow at night is perhaps the most powerful symbol of its traditions and heritage. In this experience, explore the quintessential sights of Asakusa after sunset with a knowledgeable guide, who will take you through the lesser-known landmarks and historical sites for an unforgettable evening exploring one of Tokyo's historical charms.
You’ll start the walking tour at Sensoji Temple. As you make your way through the temple complex, beautifully illuminated against the dark sky, you'll pass through Kaminarimon Gate and see the famous “Asakusa Emaki” shutter art at the quiet Nakamise Shopping Street after hours. Stroll through the area, aglow with paper lanterns, and typically with less crowds than during the day, as your host shares insights on the history and cultural significance of Sensoji.
Next, your host will venture off the beaten path through narrow alleyways and lesser-known attractions. Your next stop will be the Sumida riverside, where you will take in the stunning cityscape, with illuminated bridges and the towering, glittering Tokyo Skytree reflected in the water, occasionally interrupted by yakatabune boats passing by.
But this isn’t only a walking tour — it’s a food tour too! Enjoy an assortment of classic Japanese foods like yakitori (chicken skewers) and succulent seafood dishes like sashimi platters. Two dishes and a drink are included in the two food stops that your guide will handpick just for you, to give you an authentic taste of Asakusa's culinary delights.
