Wagashi are delicate Japanese confectioneries made with such precision and intricate designs that, at a glance, you might confuse them with elaborate fine chocolates or even miniature soaps. Served both as a treat for special occasions and as an everyday snack, wagashi look so immaculate it can seem daunting to attempt making them, but this workshop proves that anyone can learn to craft beautiful and cute wagashi sweets!
At this workshop in central Tokyo, your instructor will walk you through an overview of this Japanese confectionery and its ingredients before you get hands-on in making wagashi inspired by your preferences. She will teach you step-by-step how to make wagashi shaped like your favorite characters, a very creative and fun experience. After the sweets are ready, you will enjoy them the traditional way, paired with matcha tea.
Marimo, your host, comes from a culinary family: her father was a chef at an embassy, and she learned how to cook from her mother and grandmother. After living abroad and experiencing different food cultures, Marimo decided to share her love for Japanese home cooking and traditional sweets with international visitors through fun home cooking workshops like this one!

This class is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. The type of wagashi to be made are jo-namagashi, made with plant-based ingredients such as red and white kidney beans.
