Nagoya, the capital of Aichi Prefecture, is Japan’s 3rd biggest city and home to the country’s biggest automobile industry. Besides the unique food you can enjoy there, there is also the Tokugawa Art Museum.
At the Tokugawa Art Museum, you can find original armor and katana swords that were used by the samurai, tea ceremony utensils, noh theater masks and costumes, Japanese and Chinese calligraphy masterpieces, and three original scrolls of the legendary Genji Monogatari dating back to 1130s!
After your visit to the museum, make sure that you take a stroll in the beautiful Tokugawaen garden and the restored mansion of the local daimyo, former feudal lords. If you want to witness the beautiful blooming peonies or irises, make sure to visit between April and June, or in November to watch the mesmerizing leaf colors during the “koyo” (autumn leaf) season! Last but not least, if you want to taste the traditional Japanese bento lunch box, pay a visit to Hozentei, a restaurant at the entrance.
